Bellevue Quilt Ministry
The quilt ministry began about nine years ago when a small group of women from Bellevue answered the call to provide needed blankets to orphanages in the Ukraine after members returned from a mission trip there. Since that time, close to 1000 quilts have been made and sent to the Pacific Rim, Ukraine, Africa, Haiti, Mexico, Kentucky mountains, as well as most of our local shelters and missions. Besides giving physical warmth, the quilts often allow the giver an opportunity to share the message of the love of Jesus.
Today, the quilt ministry continues to grow. Even more women and men are still providing needed quilts and other handmade items to share the love of Jesus. Burmese ladies are learning to quilt not only for themselves but also to contribute to others in need.
The quilt ministry also double blesses those involved. You get the blessing of the joy of giving and the blessing of friends. Ages of participants currently span 50 years so you can learn a lot as you work side by side with each other. There is much laughter, sometimes tears and loads of love shared.
You can be a part of this ministry in different ways. You can pray, give funds or items on our wish list, or you can come join us! The quilts are made in assembly line style so you can learn one step or learn them all – from simply tying knots to ironing fabric, pinning the quilt sandwich, cutting squares, sewing straight lines, hand or machine sewing binding, or doing the math to design the quilt tops.
You are invited to join The Bellevue Quilters on the second & fourth Monday of each month at 9:30am and the third Tuesday of each month at 6:00pm at 601-B Carlton Drive; childcare provided on the 4th Monday only until noon. You can find more information in the trunk in front of the quilt in the atrium for other times, contacts, and the wish list. Come share the warmth!
